El inicio de la Firma Relojeria Timex se
remonta al año 1854. En esa fecha comercializada y conocida con la marca
Waterbury fabricaban relojes de sobremesa.
En 1900 desarrollan el famoso Reloj Yankee Pocket Watch que tenía como
precio de venta un dólar. La firma vendió 40 millones de relojes y entre
sus socios más conocidos se encontraba el escritor Americano Mark Twain.
En 1920 el ejercito Estadounidense solicitó a la marca que realizase
modificaciones sobre el conocido como "dollar watch" para
adecuarlos a un modelo de reloj de muñeca que pudieran usar los soldados.
Durante la segunda guerra mundial, la firma cambió de nombre a Timex Corporation
y fue proveedor a gran escala del Ejercito USA, y fuerzas alidas.
En 1950 la firma se hizo muy popular con la emisión de unos comerciales
donde se sometía a los relojes a una serie de pruebas extremas.
En 1960 Relojes Timex empezó a vender relojes de bajo costo para mujeres
y una línea de relojes eléctricos con precios muy accesibles para el sector
Joven y De Moda.
En 1970, con la comercialización masiva de relojes digitales Japoneses y
Asiaticos, pocas Casas Relojeras lograron ser competitivas y entre ellas, la
única firma norteamericana que sobrevivio a la invasión del cuarzo fue
Timex.
En 1986 Timex lanzo al mercado su famoso modelo Timex Ironman Watch
incluyendo conceptos útiles para deportistas de alta competición.
En 1992 Relojes Timex inventó y desarrolló un sistema de iluminación electro-luminiscente llamado Indiglo® con un increíble contraste y

TIMEX WATCHES:
Timex is a direct descendant of several important 19th century American clock and watch manufacturers. Like Timex today, still specialized in durable yet affordable timepieces. The Waterbury Clock Company, founded in 1857, made a wide variety of clocks for home and business. The Waterbury Watch Company, founded in 1880, and the Robt. H. Ingersoll & Brothers firm, founded a year later, made hundreds of millions of pocket watches and sold them around the world. With the beginning of World War I, a great demand arose for a new timepiece - the wristwatch - that could be used more easily that the pocket watch on the battlefield or in the trenches. Timex's forerunners, Waterbury Watch Company and Ingersoll, made and sold some of these early wartime wristwatches and after the war, civilians clamoured for this novel and handy timekeeper.
The first Timex-branded watch, introduced in 1950, used a new movement that replaced jewels with long-wearing bearings, making it far less expensive than Swiss watches, yet more durable and easier to produce. By the 1960's, Timex was the most popular watch brand in the country, known for the famous slogan: Timex - It Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking.
Timex has maintained market superiority since that time by introducing innovative designs and technology, like the Indiglo® night-light which was named one of the best products of the year by Business Week and Fortune magazines in 1993. In 1995, Fairchild Publications named Timex America's favourite accessory brand and second favourite fashion brand overall, beating out promotion powerhouses like Nike and Levi's.
Timex Corporation, headquartered in Middlebury, Connecticut, currently does business in over 90 countries around the globe and has been the largest-selling watch brand in America since the 1960's, with domestic distribution through approximately 100,000 outlets.
