1924 Nacimiento del primer reloj de pulsera automático del mundo, el HARWOOD. El fabricante de relojes inglés John Harwood (1893 - 1965) y el fundador de FORTIS Walter Vogt deciden establecer la producción de los relojes de pulsera automáticos.

John Harwood (1893-1965) was a repairer working of all kinds of timepieces in his workshop on the Isle Of Man. He disliked the newer wristwatches as the cases easily let in dust and moisture, and so, in 1922, he set about eliminating weak spots where this could happen.
He set about constructing a watch without a winding stem. This was nothing new as Breguet had used it for pocket watches. The first prototype of the automatic wristwatch used an ordinary adapted hand wound Swiss calibre. Various adjustments and smaller movements followed whilst connection of the handwork to the bezel for hand setting was adopted but no devise to hand wind the mainspring. After patenting the invention in Switzerland in1924 (No. 106,583) ( UK No 1576120 in 1926, No 218487 in 1923 together with H. Cutts) the next stage was to interest someone into producing the watch. Swiss interest was muted. Eventually the movement producer AS, Water Vogt (owner of Fortis watch factory) and some English financiers sorted out details and production commenced in 1926.
